The Biosimilars Sales Consultant is responsible for implementing the Biosimilars Franchise sales and marketing plans to assure maximum distribution and market penetration of Boehringer Ingelheim’s (BI) Biosimilars product within Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals Inc. (BIPI) guidelines, policies, and directives. The incumbent will conduct their business with key Biosimilars targets including Rheumatologist, Dermatologists, and Gastroenterologists, and with target health systems and key accounts.

The Biosimilars Sales Consultant is proactive in their approach and response to situational business needs and requirements. This role will manage a geography that may require overnight travel and occasional night and weekend Biosimilars meeting responsibilities.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and utilizes exceptional marketplace acumen, Biosimilars product knowledge and highly effective customer engagement/selling skills to influence targeted Biosimilars health care professionals to support the appropriate use of BI’s Biosimilars product.
  • Proves value to their customers as a consultative partner who understands and respects the Biosimilars business and environment.
  • Executes brand strategies and business plans to ensure a consistent company sales and marketing message.
  • Establishes and maintains exceptional communication/cooperation/coordination with internal BIPI employees.
  • Develops pre-call plans to meet the individual Biosimilars health care professionals' (HCP) needs as well as the accounts needs.
  • Builds valued discussion around Biosimilars HCP needs and opportunities.
  • Fosters Biosimilars HCP network development and communication.
  • Has accurate and timely follow-up discussions with Biosimilars HCP.
  • Fosters ongoing trust with Biosimilars HCP as relationship develops.
  • Excels at using appropriate BIPI Sales Training techniques which supports and encourages technical exchange of scientific knowledge and dialogue thereby providing enhanced value to the HCP through facilitation of individual patient management and therapy decision making process.
  • Accountable to develop and maintain an actionable, clear business plan including inputs from cross functional and cross franchise counterparts, aligned to the Biosimilar Franchise strategies, aimed at exceeding sales targets.
  • Demonstrates expert analysis and leverages all analytical tools and platforms available to assess business opportunities and optimize focused activity to drive sales.
  • Monitors and effectively reacts to local market conditions for changes that impact business at territory level.
  • Manages territory budget that supports the development of National, Zone and Territory Biosimilars thought leaders, innovators, and advocates to support BI’s Biosimilars Product.
  • Assists in determining how to efficiently utilize Regional and National Speakers and other company resources in their territory by pro-actively working with direct manager.
  • Provides appropriate feedback and follow-up to Biosimilars speakers and attendees.
  • Initiates contacts and network-building among advocates and Biosimilars HCPs.
  • Expertly manages programs and budgets to stay within BI Biosimilars standards.
  • Determines how to efficiently and effectively utilize company resources to include Regional and National speakers by pro-actively working with BI Biosimilars Leadership and Marketing teams.
  • Performs all company business in accordance with all regulations (e.g., EEO, FDA, DEA, OSHA, PDMA, EPA, PhRMA, etc.) and company policy and procedures.
  • Immediately reports noted/observed violations to management.
  • Demonstrates high ethical and professional standards with all business contacts to maintain BIPI's excellent reputation within the medical and pharmaceutical community.
  • Provides consistent, timely and complete administrative duties and responsibilities.
  • Completes all expense reports, call reports, and communications effectively and on time.
  • Accepts responsibility and ownership of personal development while working closely with direct manager.
  • Develops a personal development plan and ensures twice annual review with direct manager.
  • Assists the direct manager with special programs and initiatives designed to support the growth and development of peers within the Region.
  • Delivers exemplary level of clinical and technical value to customers, assisting the health care customer in meeting their unique patient care needs, all within BI regulatory guidelines.
  • Provides expert understanding of the Market Access landscape.
  • As a trusted Biosimilars Sales Consultant, encourages and receives requests from customers for expert technical information outside of standard visits.
  • Through all these endeavors, develops trust and subsequent value with Biosimilars customers.

This is a dual-level posting. Candidates will be hired at the level commensurate with their experience and business need.

Biosimilars Sales Consultant Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A minimum requirement of two (2) years of successful US pharmaceutical sales experience; two (2) years Specialty/Biologics experience preferred.
  • Immunology experience strongly preferred.
  • Launch experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to translate key scientific information supporting product, competitors, science, and marketplace to a broad range of Biosimilars customers.
  • Proven track record of success required
  • Track record of working with a high performing cross functional team in a complex selling environment.
  • Strong communications skills are required to perform the job satisfactorily.
  • Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and any other relevant applications.
  • Ability to travel - overnight (inclusive of some weekend programs), approximately 10-50%, depending on geography.
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record
  • Displays AAI behaviors: Agility, Accountability, and Intrapreneurship.
  • In-depth understanding of the economics/business of Biosimilars across all settings, the evolving reimbursement environment and evolution of specialty distribution and patient support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex data to targeted customers and leverages a customer centricity approach when developing business plans.
  • Working knowledge of the PhRMA guidelines and other regulatory statutes (e.g., PDMA, Sunshine Act) that affect pharmaceutical promotion and ensure compliance with all BI policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates complete and exceptional knowledge of BIPI Biosimilars products and related marketplace.
  • Demonstrates effective translation of product knowledge into the sales presentation and is customer focused with a priority directed towards providing solutions-based customer interactions.

Sr. Biosimilar Sales Consultant Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • A minimum requirement of seven (7) years of successful US Pharmaceutical sales experience; with five to seven (5-7) years Specialty/Biologics experience preferred.
  • Requires at least one (1) year prior experience demonstrating acct. management, leveraging HUB services, collaborating with clinical educators & specialty pharmacies, supporting reimbursement navigation, fostering market development, regional Key External Expert (KEE) engagement & relationship management, linking KEEs with appropriate internal stakeholders, fluency in the inner networking & navigation of teaching institutions.
  • Immunology experience strongly preferred.
  • Launch experience in past five (5) years preferred.
  • Ability to translate key scientific information supporting product, competitors, science, and marketplace to a broad range of Biosimilars customers.
  • Proven track record of success required.
  • Track record of working with a high performing, cross-functional team in a complex selling environment.
  • Excellent communications, objective setting, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to travel - overnight (inclusive of some weekend programs), approximately 10-50%, depending on geography.
  • Valid Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.
